Il FILO della MEMORIA.
Italy’s first public green space for curing Alzheimer’s disease was inaugurated in Pistoia on 10 february 2025
The first public therapeutic green space in Italy was inaugurated in Pistoia.
A unique project dedicated to curing Alzheimer’s disease is now found in the Jorio Vivarelli public park in Via Melani.
It was created by Fondazione Turati and conceived as an integral part of the “Il filo della memoria” adult day care centre, operational since November and located in front of the structure.
The project was carried out with the support of Fondazione Caript through the Socialmente 2024 grant, while green spaces were curated by Andrea Mati.
This is a therapeutic green space, a natural environment designed to favour the psycho-physical well-being of people with Alzheimer’s, with positive effects on their cognitive functions, behavioural disorders and mood and providing stimuli to slow down decline and encourage sociality.
Going into detail, the facility includes a path lined with plants capable of stimulating and reactivating the residual functions of people with dementia as well as favouring relaxation and well-being for all those who visit it.
